How to become Optimistic? 10 ways to become more Optimistic in life

How being optimistic can help us to improve the mind and body?

I tend to err on the side of optimism most times especially on things I believe in.

To the extent that most times people want me to be more careful and realistic. Which is okay.

But that’s me.

Working with different people you find not everyone is optimistic. In fact, if you talk to a few people close to an election period – you find people who won’t vote because they believe a single vote cannot change anything.

While in reality – every single vote in a “free and fair” system contributes to changing the destiny of a generation.

What optimism is NOT:-

  • Carelessness
  • Ignoring people’s advice
  • Plain Stupidity
  • Toxic positivity

There are so many people in the world today who are led by primarily by fear, playing safe even though they may be hard-working and others who are led by shallow confidence without putting in the work.

When I started to invest heavily on myself and business, I had people who were so much skeptical and were advising me to take it easy. But I believed so much in it – I never for once thought I could fail.

The same thing I see with almost forms of online businesses e.g. affiliate marketing, coaching – if you don’t have faith in what you do or promote – you cannot sell yourself to potential clients.

There are many things you can do to become more optimistic. It starts with making a decision to be more positive and looking for the good in every situation.

10 ways to become more Optimistic in life

1: Work on your mindset

By using the power of positive thinking, you can train your brain to see the bright side of any situation.

Change your thoughts and words you use to steer towards optimism.

Instead of “I’m a failure. I got no opportunities. I don’t have anybody. I am not good enough. I can never achieve X”

Motivate yourself to be more optimistic. Replace those thoughts with positive and empowering thoughts like:

“I’m working towards opportunities. I’m making effort” I can do all things. I am enough.”

2: Looking on the Bright Side

Sometimes bad things happen, but it is important to try to find the silver lining in every cloud. When you focus on the positive, you will feel better and be more likely to see the good in others as well.

For every problem you can either spend more energy looking for solutions or talking about the problems itself. The latter never leads to progress or put you in the right frame of mind.

When you focus on solutions – you can easily learn from your mistakes, achieve more and also gain more trust and respect from others.

3: Avoid negativity

Acknowledge your negative thoughts, but don’t dwell on them. Instead, focus on the positive things in your life.

Choose to stop thinking only of bad things and how things can go wrong. It doesn’t pay to having negativity as your primary topic for discussion when interacting with others.

It pays to guard what you allow into your mind. The most optimistic people I know don’t watch bad news on TV every evening. All this can make you depressed and make it difficult to learn how to have a happy life.

4: Develop Gratitude

A gratitude mindset can help you become more optimistic as you shift focus from worrying to thankfulness and possibilities.

Make a list of all the things you’re grateful for in your life. Dwell on them.

5: Take more risks

The thing with risks is that the more you take them – the less the scare you anymore. The more confidence and potential reward you benefit from them.

When you listen to people who are good in sales – you realize sales is a numbers game at first.

If you’re afraid of rejection and people telling you No – you cannot be good at sales.

6: Help others

Service to others is one of the biggest ways to maintain the right perspective.

Optimism can help you through tough times and its important to be a light for others.

When you focus only on yourself – you never know who is going through worse situation than you. And you may likely escalate a problem beyond what it is.

But the opposite happens when you start helping others achieve their dreams. Optimism can help you through tough times and its important to be a light for others.

7: Hang around Positive people

Surround yourself with positive people who will support and encourage you.

Birds of the same feather flock together. And misery loves company.

If you hang around positive people you naturally see yourself become more positive and optimistic about life.

While if you hang around people that are negative and want to see the worst– you become pessimistic.

8: Speak life

A lot of us underestimate the power of our words. First they’re a manifestation of our thoughts which is the first thing we’re to work on. But it takes some mindfulness and consciousness to speak more positive words.

Whatever you say make sure it brings life rather than destroy. This is the ultimate way to optimism.

Practice optimistic self-talk, and avoid putting yourself down.“ I can scale through no matter the circumstances” “This too shall pass”

Watch your life change for good when you use positive words like these even in the darkest moments.

9: Create your Happiness

Happiness is a state of mind. Its not determined by circumstances or your bank account.

Life is full of choices, and one of the most important choices you make is whether or not you will be happy.

Decide that you are going to choose happiness, no matter what happens in your life. This would lead you to take more healthy choices like:

  • Exercise
  • Spending time in nature
  • Eating healthy foods

All this lead to a healthy cycle of optimism and a happier state of mind.

10: Find Your Purpose

A big part of being optimistic is having a sense of purpose in life.

Find something that brings meaning to your life, and pursue it with passion.

Why you should embrace optimism?

1: Live your life to the fullest

A lot of people are driven by fear, take zero risks and hence live in their own shadow.

The key to living your life to the fullest is to get rid of your fears and not let it hold you back.

Take risks and live on your edge. That’s where all the reward is and the path to living to your fullest potential.

2: Gain Focus and Clarity in life

Clarity is about focusing on what’s important to you and the eliminating the non-essentials.“

In a world filled with pessimism, optimism is your competitive advantage in the workplace.

Pessimistic leaders see challenges and retreat. Optimistic leaders see challenges and view them as opportunities – even if it’s just learning something new. – Ryan Millard.

3: Keep things simple

Sometimes we need a sense of order, meaning & certainty to feel engaged & optimistic.

Overthinking and pessimism complicates life. Think of children – there’s nothing under the sun they believe they can’t do unless they try. If you want to keep your life simple and do more cool shit – embrace optimism.

Take for example you want to scale and optimize your business – instead of guessing and leaving things to chance.

It’s as simple as knowing your numbers and writing down where you want to go and have a systemised plan for it.

4: Eliminate Negative thinking

Steve Harvey who has built multiple successful businesses and career recommends “Power of positive thinking” as one of his go to book for anyone trying to build their mindset.

No doubt as one of the best ways to stop filling your mind with negative thoughts is to become optimistic.

It opens your mind up to possibilities and opportunities that may not have been possible through negative thinking.

5: Bring out the best in others

I’ve seen this practically at organizations and in families where parents are trying to raise children.

Smart and confident people don’t thrive in pessimistic environments. Fact is, those people you’re overprotecting have wings which can only work when you allow them.

6: Develop the Right mindset

Being optimistic helps you develop the right mindset to success and progress in life.

The right mindset is geared towards possibilities and opportunities rather than roadblocks and failures.

Whatever you focus your mind in life – you see more of. An optimistic mindset opens endless opportunities

7: Achieve Your Goals

Optimism plays in setting and achieving goals, as well as succeeding in various areas of life.

Steve Jobs had a very optimistic mindset to whatever he believed in that people considered it a form of “reality distortion.”

When people said “it’s not possible” “It can’t work.” He wouldn’t accept it. He was keen on minimizing limitations and doubts to whatever goals he had.

8: Overcome Adversity

Staying positive and optimistic can help you overcome challenges and difficult times.

When i was going through the most difficult moments of my life – the only choice i had to come out of it strong was being optimistic.

9: Better Health and wellbeing

Optimism can improve your health, mental well-being, and overall outlook on life.

This doesn’t give one a license to ignore the role lifestyle choices have on your health but helps you take back control of your health and life.

CONCLUSION

Being optimistic is a cheatcode. It will make your life a lot easier. Trust your process, regardless of what happens or what you face.

Don’t let the present moment blind you from seeing the bigger picture.

Even when it’s hard, you MUST remain optimistic and keep faith. It takes grace to be grateful and optimistic in such periods. Keep your head high and look UP!
